What SMTP servers can be used in Abuse Manager ?

Last updated on 20 Apr, 2026

Abuse Manager sends notification emails to registrars and registrants when you use the Notify action on a case. To enable this, you need to configure an outgoing email server. Abuse Manager supports two options: your own SMTP server, or the Abuse Manager shared SMTP service.

Both are configured from SettingsEmail.

Option 1 — Your own SMTP server

If your organisation has its own SMTP server, you can connect it to Abuse Manager. Emails sent via your own server will use your email domain and comply with your existing email security policies (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).

Best for: Organisations that need outgoing mail to come from their own domain, or that have strict email compliance requirements.

→ See How do I set up my own SMTP server in Abuse Manager?

Option 2 — Abuse Manager SMTP

If you don't have your own SMTP server, you can use Abuse Manager's shared mail infrastructure. You provide a sender name and email address, and Abuse Manager sends the email on your behalf via its own servers (powered by Mailgun).

Best for: Organisations without their own mail server, or those that want a quick setup without managing SMTP credentials.

Note: To avoid your emails being flagged as spam, you must add a TXT record to the DNS of your sender email domain. See How do I use Abuse Manager's SMTP servers? for the full setup steps.

Additional email settings

Once your SMTP server is configured, you can also set up:

  • Email Delivery Settings — automatically CC or BCC an address on every outgoing case email. See How do I configure email delivery settings?

  • Notification Settings — control how often Abuse Manager sends you automated summary emails about unactioned cases (daily, weekly, or monthly). Configured in the same SettingsEmail page.
